JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2025

JEE Main Eligibility 2025
The eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2025 have undergone updates from the previous year, as announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Candidates should review the following information to ensure they meet the current requirements.
According to the latest guidelines, to be eligible for admission to IIITs, NITs, CFTIs, and other institutions participating in CSAB, candidates must achieve at least 75% marks in their Class 12 examinations conducted by their respective boards (or 65% for ST/SC categories). Alternatively, students must be in the top 20 percentile of their Class 12 examination results.
Additionally, candidates must pass in all subjects of their Class 12 or equivalent qualifying exam.
For JEE Main 2025, the basic eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens. NRIs, PIOs, OCIs, and foreign nationals are also eligible to apply.
- Aadhar Card Requirement: An Aadhaar Card is not mandatory for this exam. Candidates may use other valid government-issued identification numbers such as a passport number, ration card number, or bank account number.

Age and Qualification Criteria for JEE Main 2025
Age Criteria: There is no age limit for applying to JEE Main 2025.
Qualification Criteria:
- Qualifying Exam: Candidates must have passed the 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board.
- Subjects: Candidates need to have taken a minimum of five subjects in their 12th grade or equivalent exam. Physics and Mathematics are mandatory, along with one of the following: Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, or Technical Vocational subjects.
- Appearing Candidates: Those currently appearing for their 12th grade or equivalent exams in 2025 are also eligible. Students from NIOS and those pursuing Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examinations can apply.
- Diploma Holders: While diploma holders can appear for JEE Main 2025, their ranks and scores will not be considered for admission to NITs and CFTIs. However, they may apply for JEE Advanced.
- Board Marks: Since 2019, board exam marks are not considered for calculating JEE Main scores.
For B.Arch (Paper 2): Candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in their 10+2 exam.
Passing Year Eligibility Criteria:
- Candidates who have passed their 12th grade or equivalent exams in 2023 or 2024 are eligible to apply.
- Candidates who appeared in the 12th grade in 2024 but did not pass until 2022 are not eligible.
- Those who passed their 12th grade in 2022 or earlier, or who will appear in 2026 or later, are not eligible for JEE Main 2025.
- If a candidate passes their 12th grade in 2024 and appears for improvement exams in 2025 for one or more subjects, the top 20 percentile cut-off for 2024 will be considered. For candidates who attempt all subjects in 2024, the best performance out of the two will be used.
- For the percentile system, the total marks obtained in all five subjects on the mark sheet are required for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced.
Eligibility for Admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs (Through CSAB)
For admission to B.E., B.Tech., B.Arch., and B.Plan programs at institutions accepting JEE Main ranks through CSAB (based on All India Rank), candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Marks Requirement: Candidates must have obtained at least 75% marks in their 12th grade exams conducted by their respective boards (or 65% for ST/SC candidates).
- Top 20 Percentile: Alternatively, candidates must be in the top 20 percentile of their Class 12 exams conducted by their respective boards.
- Pass in All Subjects: Candidates must have passed in all subjects of their 12th grade or equivalent qualifying exam.
Admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs will be based on the qualifying percentile announced by each institute.
JEE Advanced: To be eligible for admission into IITs, candidates must first qualify JEE Main, which serves as the eligibility test for JEE Advanced.
Eligibility Criteria as per COA
The eligibility criteria established by the Council of Architecture (COA) for admission to B.Arch. and B.Plan programs at institutions other than NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs are as follows:
For B.Arch.:
- Qualifying Exam: Candidates must have completed their 12th grade from a recognized board or university.
- Qualifying Marks: Students must have passed the 12th grade with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.
- Minimum Marks: Candidates must have achieved at least 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks specifically in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
For B.Plan:
- Qualifying Exam: Candidates must have completed their 12th grade from a recognized board or university.
- Qualifying Marks: Students must have passed the 12th grade with Mathematics as a mandatory subject.
- Minimum Marks: Candidates must have secured at least 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in the overall aggregate of their qualifying exam.

List of Qualifying Examinations (QE) for JEE Main:
Candidates can qualify for JEE Main through the following examinations:
- 10+2 System: The final examination conducted by any recognized central or state board, such as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, or the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi.
- Intermediate/Pre-University Examination: A two-year examination conducted by a recognized board or university.
- Joint Services Wing Examination: The final examination of the two-year course conducted by the National Defense Academy.
- Senior Secondary School Examination: Conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) with a minimum of five subjects.
- Public School/Board/University Examinations: Any examination conducted by a public school, board, or university in India or abroad, recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
- Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination: Conducted by recognized boards.
- Diploma: A three-year diploma recognized by the AICTE or a state board of technical education.
- General Certificate of Education (GCE): Advanced (A) level examinations conducted by London, Cambridge, or Sri Lanka.
- High School Certificate Examination: Conducted by Cambridge University or the International Baccalaureate Diploma awarded by the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
