Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU CET) 2020 for UG and PG Admission
IMU CET 2020 Notification: Indian Maritime University (IMU) is organizing a Common Entrance Test by the IMU CET 2020 for the academic year 2020. IMU conducting CET 2020 for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Courses Admission.
IMU CET 2020 Notification
- Admissions to courses conducted in IMU Campuses and Affiliated Institutes are done through an All-India Online Common Entrance Test (CET) for the year 2020, the Computer Based CET is to be conducted for admission to DNS February 2020 batch in the following seven (07) Affiliated Institutes to be held in 12 cities across India on Saturday, 04th January 2020.

IMU CET 2020 Important Dates
- Starting Date for Online Registration: 15th November 2020
- Last Date for Online Registration: 13th December 2020
- Downloading of Hall Ticket: 20th December 2020
- IMU CET Exam Date 2020: 04th January 2020, 11.00 am to 02.00 pm
- Date of Publication of Results: 10th January 2020
IMU CET 2020 Exam Details
- All admissions to the various UG and PG Programs of the IMU and its Affiliated Institutes for the Academic Year 2020 starting on 15th November 2019 will be through an all-India Online Common Entrance Tests (CETs) which will be conducted on Saturday, 04th January 2020 between 11.00 am and 02.00 pm.
- Candidates will be required to clear this CET in order to be eligible for admissions to the respective Programs.
- It is most popularly known as IMU. Every year IMU conducts a common entrance test for admission into undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by the University, for the year 2020, the IMU CET 2020 will be conducted on 04th January 2020
- There will be a CET common to all UG Programs. There will be a CET common to the 2 MBA programs; another CET common to the 02.00 PM, M. Tech Programs.
- Admissions to Diploma in Nautical Science leading to B.Sc. (Applied Nautical Science) Program in Affiliated Institutes are open only to ‘sponsored candidates’, i.e. candidates sponsored by Ship Owning or Managing Companies who qualify in IMU’s CET for UG Programs.

IMU CET 2020 Eligibility Criteria
1-year DNS Program leading to B.Sc. (Applied Nautical Sci.) [Mumbai & Chennai]
- 10+2/equivalent (PCM-60%) or B.Sc (PCM)/B.Sc (Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the years) Marks not less than 50% or; B.E/B.Tech from IIT or college recognized by AICTE Marks not less than 50%
Note
- English Marks is to be 50% or more in any 1 of the above exams. In case of SC/ST, candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English marks
3-year B.Sc. (Nautical Science) [Chennai, Mumbai & Cochin]
- 10+2 or equivalent (PCM-60% average and a minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th or 12th Examination)
- In the case of SC/ST candidates, there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English marks.
3-year B.Sc. (Maritime Science) [Mumbai]
- 10+2/ equivalent (PCM-60% & English 50%); in case of SC/ST candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English marks
4-year B.Tech (Marine Engg)[Kolkata, Mumbai & Chennai]
- 10+2/equivalent (PCM-60% & English-50%)
- In case of SC/ST, candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English marks.
Eligibility for Lateral Entry
- Candidates with Diploma in Marine /Mechanical Engineering with at least 60% marks overall are eligible to apply for Lateral Entry. The applications for this will be invited separately by the respective IMU Campuses/ Affiliated Institutes.
3-year B.Sc. (Ship Building & Repair) [Kochi]
- 10+2/equivalent (PCM- 50% & English-50%). In case of SC/ST, candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English marks
4-year B.Tech (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engg)* [Visakhapatnam]
- 10+2/equivalent (PCM -60% & English- 50%) or; in case of SC/ST, candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English marks.
Eligibility for Lateral Entry
- 2nd Year of B. Tech (Naval Architecture & Ocean Eng)
- Candidates with 60% marks overall in 4-year Diploma in Ship Building Engineering from the Institute of Shipbuilding Technology, Goa [OR] 3-year Diploma in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering from the AMET University, Chennai [OR] 3-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/Civil Engineering from any Institute approved by AICTE, will be eligible for admissions by Lateral Entry into the second year against the available vacant seats at the beginning of the second year.
- The admissions will be made in the order of merit based on the aggregate percentage of marks.
- The candidate should have completed the diploma within its stipulated duration of 4 years or 3 years as the case may be.
Age limit – 18 to 26 years
For 3rd Year of B. Tech (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering)
- Candidates with B.Sc (Ship Building & Repair), who have at least 60% marks overall and have completed the degree within the stipulated period of 3 years, will be eligible for admissions by Lateral Entry into the third year. The number of seats for this lateral entry is ‘20’ and available only in IMU Visakhapatnam Campus.
- The admissions will be made in the order of merit based on an aggregate percentage of marks.
Age limit -19 to 27 years
MBA Port & Shipping Mgmt., International Transportation & Logistics Mgt. (2 years) (offered by Chennai, Kochi & Kolkata):
- A bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks from Recognized universities. A minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th/12th/UG Degree
- In case of SC/ST candidates, there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English marks)
M.Tech in Naval Architecture & Ocean Engg /Dredging & Harbour Engg (2 years) [offered by Visakhapatnam]:
- Graduate Engineering in Mechanical /Civil /Aeronautical /Marine /Naval Architecture or equivalent with 60% aggregate. In the case of SC/ST, candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks.
PhD (Nonresidential) [offered Visakhapatnam]:
- Postgraduate degree in Marine Engineering/Naval Architecture
- M (Maritime Law): 50% in any law degree
Age Limit
For U.G Programs
- Age as on the date of admission on 01st January shall be as follows:
- Minimum age 17 years
- Maximum age 25 Years
- For Scheduled Castes (SC) & Schedule Tribe candidates (ST) Candidates maximum age relaxation is for five (5) years
Relaxation in marks
- For applicants belonging to SC/ST, a relaxation of 5% of the aggregate marks will be considered for all programs except in English subject marks
Reservations of Seats
- 15% of the total seats available to Indian Nationals are reserved for eligible candidates belonging to SC 7.5% for ST and 27% Seats are reserved for Other Backward Class (OBC) candidates belonging to non- creamy layer (NCL)
PwD may apply for admissions to BBA Program
- Reservation of seats in U.G courses for students from Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands, 08 North Eastern States (including Sikkim) and Jammu & Kashmir in IMU, Campuses
- Maximum number of seats reserved in a given Academic Year for the U.G Programs put together in all IMU Campuses shall be as follows:
- Andaman and Nicobar Islands – 20 seats
- Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands – 10 seats
- Eight North Eastern States (including Sikkim) – 40 seats
- Jammu and Kashmir – 10 seats
Physical Fitness
- Candidate for admission to marine courses (DG Shipping-approved courses) are required to produce the certificate for medical fitness by Doctors approved by Director General of Shipping

EyeSight
- For DGS-approved courses viz DNS leading to B.Sc (Applied Nautical Science), B.Sc (Nautical Science), B.Sc (Maritime Science) & B.Tech (Marine Engineering), there should not be any degree of squint or any morbid condition of eyes or of the eyelids that is liable to aggravate or recur, pressure of trachoma and iris complication sequel
- Candidates joining DNS, B.Sc. (Nautical Science) & B.Sc. (Maritime Science) degree course colour vision shall (unaided 1.0 (6/6) in better eye and 0.67 (6/9) in other eyes. Normal Colour vision shall be tested by Ishihara test chart
- In case of candidates joining B. Tech. (Marine Engineering) degree course, distance vision (unaided 0.5 (6/12) in each eye or 0.67 (6/9) in better eye and 0.33 (6/18) in other eyes. Normal colour vision shall be tested by Ishihara test chart
IMU CET 2020 Selection Process
- All admissions to the various UG and PG programs of the IMU and its Affiliated Institutes will be through All-India Common Entrance Tests (CETs) conducted every year, usually in the month of June
- There will be a CET common to all UG programs
- There will be a CET common to the 2 MBA programs; another CET common to the 2 M.Tech programs; and yet another CET for the LLM (Maritime Laws) program
- Note: The results of the CETs are valid for the particular Academic Year only

- CET for all UG Programs [except BBA (Logistics, Retailing and E-Commerce) Program]
- No. of Questions – 200 multiple choice questions
- Syllabus – English, General Aptitude, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics at Plus 2 level
- CET for Lateral Entry of DNS-passed students to 2nd Year of B.Sc. (Nautical Science)
- No. of Questions – 200 multiple choice questions
- Syllabus – English, General Knowledge, Computer Science, Physics, Electricity, Electronics and Mathematics
- CET for the MBA (Port and Shipping Mgt.), MBA (International Transportation and Logistics) and the M.Sc (Commercial Shipping and Logistics) Programs:
- No. of Questions – 120 multiple choice questions
- Syllabus – Quantitative ability, Data interpretation, Verbal ability and Logical reasoning

IMU CET Syllabus 2020
- The Syllabus for CET for UG programs will be Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, English, General Knowledge and Aptitude at Plus 2 level (CBSE, ISE and State Boards)
IMU CET Application Form 2020
Applicants have to apply online www.imu.edu.in. The Indian Maritime University has been conducting Online CETs from 2019 onwards. All the stages from application to publication of results are now online.
The following facilities have been made available:
- Online Registration of Applicants with the facility to upload photographs, scanned signatures, scanned copy of the 10th Std Mark sheet as proof of Date of Birth and scanned copy of the SC/ST certificate where applicable
- For Online Registration, applicants should visit the website of the Indian Maritime University at imu.edu.in and click on the CET 2020 hyperlink
- Facility for applicants to download their Hall Tickets/Admit Cards with the name of the Test Venue indicated
- Automated emails/SMS will be sent to every registered applicant on successful registration of Application, uploading of Hall Ticket, the publication of results, etc
Application Fee
- Rs.1000/- for General candidates and Rs.700/- for the reserved category- with Bank Challan Form will be filled online and candidates have to enter all the details there only.
- Link for filling the form will be available at the imu portal. In the end, candidates need to enter the bank details
